Dr. Meredith Young, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Enrollment and Retention Services at the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) which runs the Community Colleges and Technology Centers in Tennessee, and 3-time alum of the College of Education.

Raeven Brooks, Award-Winning Educator. Brooks is a Second-Grade Teacher, Black Fox Elementary School, Murfreesboro, TN.
Accomplishments: Raeven Brooks, a graduate of MTSU’s College of Education, was honored with the prestigious Milken Educator Award, often referred to as the “Oscar” of education. This award recognizes outstanding educators nationwide for their excellence in teaching and comes with a $25,000 cash prize.

Tyler Hallstedt – Recognized History Teacher. Eighth-Grade History Teacher, Mt. Juliet Middle School, Mt. Juliet, TN.
Accomplishments: Tyler Hallstedt, another distinguished alumnus of MTSU’s College of Education, also received the Milken Educator Award for his exceptional contributions to education. This accolade places him among an elite group of educators recognized for their dedication and impact in the classroom.
Quote: “Professor Cindi Smith-Walters and Dr. Jeremy Winters modeled effective and engaging teaching practices in every lesson. Despite never teaching either of their subjects, I have utilized several of their methods in my classroom.”

Mary C. Scales – Trailblazing Educator and Civic Leader
Accomplishments: Mary C. Scales was the first African American faculty member at MTSU, serving as a professor and associate dean in the College of Education. She was also a dedicated civic leader, becoming the first African American woman elected to the Murfreesboro City Council. Her legacy continues to inspire future educators and leaders.
