Appeal Process for Teacher Education
If you are struggling to meet the admission to teacher education requirements, you are eligible for appeal (i.e., admitted or conditionally admitted) if you meet one of the criteria below.
Undergraduate
In lieu of the qualifying score on the ACT, SAT, or all 3 subtests of the Praxis Core, one of the following criteria must be met.
- Candidates with an ACT composite score of at least 20 must:
- have a score of 21 or better on two of three ACT subtests (English, Reading, and/or Math), and
- have earned a B- or better in the general education course aligned with the subtest without the qualifying score (i.e., Writing subtest – English 1010 or English 1020; Reading subtest-English 2020 or 2030; Math subtest- Math general education course)
- Candidates who have an ACT composite score less than a 20 must:
- have taken all 3 subtests of the Praxis Core at least one time, and
- have a qualifying score on 2 of 3 of the Praxis Core subtests, and
- have earned a B- or better in the general education course(s) aligned with the subtest without the qualifying score (i.e., for the Writing Subtest English 1010 or English 1020; for Reading English 2020 or 2030; for the Math Subtest – Math general education course).
- Candidates with an SAT total score of at least 1030 (out of a possible of 1600 total score) must:
- have a score of 530 or better on either the SAT Math section or SAT Reading/Writing/Language section, and
- have earned a B- or betterin the general education course(s) aligned with the subtest without the qualifying score (i.e., Reading/Writing/Language section – English 1010 or English 1020 AND English 2020 or 2030; Math section- Math general education course).
- Candidates who have an SAT total score less than a 1030 (out of a possible of 1600 total score) must:
- have taken all 3 subtests of the Praxis Core at least one time, and
- have a qualifying score on 2 of 3 of the Praxis Core subtests, and
- have earned a B- or better in the general education course(s) aligned with the subtest without the qualifying score (i.e., for the Writing Subtest – English 1010 or English 1020; for Reading English 2020 or 2030; for the Math Subtest – Math general education course).
Undergraduate
In lieu of the 2.75 GPA, inclusive of students can be conditionally admitted to teacher education. One of the following criteria will be met in subsequent semesters leading to full admission to teacher education.
- Candidates with an inclusive GPA of at least a 2.5 and a maximum of 48 cumulative credit hours when applying for admission to teacher education must acquire the GPA of 2.75 after completing no more than 30 additional credit hours or two full-time semesters.
- Candidates with an inclusive GPA of at least a 2.5 and a maximum of 60 cumulative credit hours when applying for admission to teacher education must acquire the GPA of 2.75 after completing no more than 15 additional credit hours or one full-time semester of coursework.
Graduate / post-baccalaureate
In lieu of the 2.75 GPA, inclusive of a completed baccalaureate or post- baccalaureate degree program, or a 3.00 GPA in the most recent sixty (60) credit hours, candidates can apply and be admitted to teacher education after completing 6 credit hours of post-baccalaureate coursework included on their initial teacher licensure program of study and earning an overall GPA of at least a 3.0.
