Residency I
Residency I (student teaching). Residents engage in research-based best practices under the collaborative supervision of highly effective mentor teachers and MTSU faculty. Students spend the equivalent of two (2) days in P-12 classrooms and the remainder of their time in University classes and seminars designed to link theory to practice. Throughout the Residency I semester, Teacher Candidates are presented with experiential problem-based learning cases that relate directly to real-world teaching. Instructional modules and seminars are structured around developing content knowledge and effective teaching skills to improve student achievement. During Residency I Teacher Candidates will practice the skills and content knowledge connected to their coursework. They may observe and experience the application of classroom management techniques, differentiating teaching strategies, and learn how to apply best practices in the classroom.
